c.1965 "KYOTO TR 10 + Auto"

Coat pocket, thermoplastic cabinet
6 1/2 x 3 1/4 x 1 3/8 inches / 165 x 82.5 x 35 mm
MW, six transistors (unmarked), two large tubular 3v batteries
Made in Italy somewhere

One of my favorite radio cantinara "basement radios", not so much for the three silly badges plastered across the perforated gold-colored speaker grille, but for the nice looking dual slide rule tuning dials: one on top, one on the face. (But if you look closely at the left hand side of the top dial in the second pic, you'll see that the 6--16 dial numbers are calibrated in "KC5", probably meant to be "KCS" for kilocycles, and should have been marked, "kc x 100".)

But back to the badges: So there's the one with a black and gold relief image of a pagoda and the word, "KYOTO" beneath, then smack-dab in the middle of the grille there's the large black and gold odd triangle with a relief "K" centered on it, and then down on the bottom right corner of the grille, the model number, "TR 10 + Auto", which isn't a model number at all, just some nonsense lettering that's also found on the SONYC. As with most other basement radios, this KYOTO has a pointless telescopic antenna and is powered by two large tubular 3v batteries.
