1959 Lafayette FS-200

Shirt pocket radio, thermoplastic cabinet
4 3/16 x 2 5/8 x 1 3/8 inches / 106 x 67 x 35 mm
Six transistors (Hitachi), superheterodyne circuit
One standard 9-volt battery
Manufactured by Asahi Radio Mfg. Co., Ltd., Tokyo
Distributed by Lafayette Radio Corp., USA

Lafayette distributed this model under its own name, but only Crown could have made a radio cabinet face like this — and in fact, Crown (Asahi Radio) made the whole thing: the FS-200 and the Crown TR-666 share the same cabinet dimensions, component layout, chassis circuit and Hitachi transistors. Another indication of their shared pedigree is the "serial number" shown below — 240759 — which actually is a production date stamp (July 24, 1959), following Asahi's most commonly used production date numbering scheme of dd/mm/yy. (For more on Crown's date codes, see my page on this.)
