Four transistors (Toshiba, 2S52, 2x 2S53, 2S54, + 1N60 diode), superheterodyne reflex circuit
One standard 9-volt battery
Manufactured by Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co. Ltd. (Toshiba), Kawasaki, Japan

The first version of the famous Toshiba "lace" pocket radio — this probably had an initial late-1958 production date, but production on this version obviously went well into 1959: the serial number on the red unit shown here indicates it was produced in July 1959, and on the blue unit, September 1959. I just gotta say, the red version is absolutely gorgeous! A second version, the 5TR-193, adding a fifth transistor to remove the need for a reflex circuit, came out in 1959 or 1960.
