A true full-figured beauty with a reverse-painted dial area larger than any other US radio I can think of: all gold and white, bringing one's eye to the small red dial pointer.
The cabinet dimensions are the same as the 888 series cabinets, but the Rambler seems larger than them because of its lack of rounded edges. I think it's much better looking than any of the 888s. The Rambler came in at least four cabinet colors: turquoise, red, black, and white.
The 988 Rambler and the 888 Explorer share the same chassis layout and probably the same circuit (see photos below).
