c.1961 RCA Victor 3 RH 31
Shirt pocket radio
4 x 2 1/2 x 1 3/8 inches / 102 x 63.5 x 35 mm
Six transistors, one 4v battery
Manufactured by RCA Victor Co. Inc., USA
One of RCA's nicer shirt pocket radios, with a vernier tuning dial using a teardrop-shaped pointer on what I'd call a "speedometer" dial.
So was this RCA 3 RH 31 made in the US or Japan? Probably in the US, but the question here is why did RCA block out its "MADE IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" stamp at the bottom of the cabinet's back face? (See photo below). Was it transitioning to Japan production at the time and modified the cabinet molds? If I could remove the clear plastic housing covering the tuning dial, I could get to the chassis and see if it includes Japan-made components -- but after a whole lot of prying and prodding, I still haven't been able to get that cover off. So I don't know, probably made in the US.
