A handsome Zenith radio, released the same year as the Royal 500H -- the Royal 400 had vernier tuning and the same oval speaker as the 500H, and much of the same circuitry, but not quite. Two collectors with great Zenith web pages, Gary's Radios and RadioJayAllen, have noted that the Royal 400 never really got a fair shake: the very well deserved fanfare over the Zenith 500H simply left the Royal 400 in the shadows, even though it was a well-performing radio. One of the cost-cutting measures used on the Royal 400 was a thermoplastic cabinet (maybe ABS), rather than the nylon cabinet used on the Royal 500H.
