1960 Hitachi TH-627R

Shirt pocket radio, thermoplastic cabinet
4 x 2 1/4 x 1 inches / 102 x 57 x 25 mm
Six transistors (2N215, 2x 2N217, 2x 2N218, HJ74), one 9V battery
Manufactured by Hitachi Ltd., Tokyo

A really sleek and slim shirt pocket radio with some nice design details: The window tuning area is a flat reverse-painted area but it's rounded over the "TRANSISTOR 6" marking on the right, and the cabinet depth is slightly curved in the front from top to bottom to accomodate the speaker (see picture below): 7/8" at top and bottom and 1" in the middle. And for me, the most appealing dimension on this set is its width, about 3/8" skinnier than most other pocket radios of this height.

As with many radios, this 1960 radio was produced and marketed for more than one year -- this example is from 1961, see photo below.
