c.1961/'62 Emerson 880

Shirt pocket radio, thermoplastic cabinet
4 1/16 x 2 3/8 x 1 1/8 inches / 103 x 60 x 29 mm
Eight transistors, one 4.2-volt tubular battery
Manufactured by Emerson Radio and Phonograph Corp., New Jersey

A really handsome Emerson shirt pocket radio from 1961 or 1962, I think. Its Sams Photofact page is dated November 1962, so the 880 could have been produced earlier in 1962 -- but given the time lags usually involved between a radio's manufacture date and its Sams page print date, the 880 easily could have been made in 1961. I really haven't been able to find any other info on the 880's mfr date.

The 880 appears to have shared the same chassis (120598) and cabinet dimensions as the Emerson 707 and 808 models, though of course each model has a distinct cabinet face.

The back outside face of the cabinet sports the name, "NEVABREAK", also found on the 1959 Emerson 555 and the 1958/'59 Emerson 888 models. I'm pretty sure that "NEVABREAK" is Cellulose Acetate Butyrate -- it's definitely not nylon.
