The 640's very unique and unusual speaker grill pattern of vines and leaves has been described variously by collectors as "filigree" and "Art Nouveau". The grille is chromed plastic tinted gold in color, with a "Bulova all transistor" name plate across it, part of the chromed-plastic grille. The ornate tuning dial is also chromed plastic tinted gold in color. I've read that this set uses the same chassis as the 5-transistor version of the Bulova 620 "Comet".
